Ehlers takes home conference player of the week honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After a dominating week at the plate which also included a couple web gem catches, Alexis Ehlers of the Simpson College softball team was named the American Rivers Conference Softball Position Player of the Week.

Ehlers, receiving her first career player of the week award, had an incredible week at the plate for the Storm over last week's six games, batting 11-for-20 (.550) with three home runs and eight RBIs. The sophomore also recorded a hit in nine straight plate appearances during the week, including going seven-for-seven in the doubleheader against Grinnell.

A native of Bryant, Iowa, Ehlers hit a three-run homer in the team's first conference win of the year on the road at Nebraska Wesleyan. Ehlers followed that up with a home run in each game against Grinnell, giving her a home run in three straight games. Playing at shortstop, Ehlers also made an incredible defensive play, reeling in a ball hit to shallow left field at full stretch against Coe.

On the year, Ehlers has a slash line of .444/.477/.790 while hitting six home runs and driving in 26 RBIs. Ehlers is also one of the hardest batters to deal with at the plate, striking out just four times in 81 at-bats. Routinely batting near the middle of the lineup, Ehlers ranks in the top 10 in the A-R-C in all three slash categories, hits, doubles, RBIs, and home runs.

Ehlers and the Storm welcome nationally ranked Central into Indianola tomorrow in doubleheader action, beginning at 3 p.m.
