Simpson wins Lamb-Kohawk Invitational

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Jake Sutton and Joe Farrand placed second and third, respectively and the Simpson men's cross country team won for the third time in as many meets at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational on Saturday.

Sutton finished the 8k course in 26:09.9 and Farrand in 26:13 to lead the Storm, who bested the five-team field with 33 points.

Cornell (40) placed second, followed by Coe (78), Coe Alumni (106) and Southwestern CC (120).

"We were led by a different individual for the third straight meet," head coach Heath Moenck said. "Jake had a huge break-out race, as did freshman Nick Yeager. We added a few more pieces of the puzzle today and if we can put them all together on the same day, we have a chance to have a special end to our season."

Yeager broke 27 minutes, navigating the course in 26:54.9, placing seventh.

Mitchell Davis took 10th (27:05.0) and John Warnke 11th (27:12.6). Miles Kirts (27:24.4) and Andrew Mayes (27:56.6) rounded out Simpson's top seven runners.

Simpson will face its biggest test of the season next weekend when it travels to West Salem, Wis. for the Drews/Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.
