Cross country teams take second at Central

PELLA, Iowa – Ryan Edwardson (So., Spencer, Iowa) and Catie Ellingson (Jr., Indianola, Iowa) each took second place at Saturday's Central Invitational, leading both the Simpson men and women to second place overall finishes.

Edwardson led three Simpson men in the top ten, finishing the 8k course in 19:40, only a second behind the medalist. Ellingson completed the 5k course in 18:56, pacing a pack of three women in the top ten.

Following Edwardson was Casey Dunning (So., Marion, Iowa) who ran a 20:14. Dunning took ninth place, just ahead of teammate Luke Weber (Jr., Allamakee, Iowa) who went wire-to-wire in 20:18, good for 10th place. Matt Stone (So., Boone, Iowa) finished in 12th and Mitchell Davis (Fr., Algona, Iowa) came in 14th. As a team, Simpson's total time was 1:41:14.

Iowa Central CC took the team title in 1:40:29.

Following Ellingson was Sarah Hammel (Sr., Dorchester, Iowa), who took fourth place overall in 19:22. Jess Christensen (Sr., Harlan, Iowa) took eighth place, taking the course in 19:41. Tricia Davis (Sr, Ft. Madison, Iowa) came in 13th while freshman Victoria Osborne (Goodyear, Arizona) came in 31st at 21:31.

Central took the women's team title in 1:36:58.

Simpson will take to the course again next week at the Grinnell Les Duke Invitational.
