Simpson falls to Central; Minnesota Morris match cancelled

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson men's tennis team closed the 2013 season with a tightly-contested 8-1 loss to Central on Saturday.

Simpson was scheduled to host Minnesota-Morris on Sunday, but the match was cancelled due to travel complications.

Despite the final tally, Simpson hung around in nearly every match, forcing super tiebreakers in two singles matches and coming within three points in the first two doubles matches.

Alex Hook earned the lone win of the day for the Storm (5-16, 1-6 Iowa Conference), who failed to qualify for the Iowa Conference Team Tournament.

Hook beat Kyle Freischlag 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot.

Peter Reitgraf got off to a good start at No. 3 before succumbing to Collin Schares, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. Jeff Hadden had a solid second set against Zane Hendricks, but couldn't win the deciding set in a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 loss in the fifth slot.

Zach Kusick and Reitgraf fell to Freischlag and West Adelman 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while Hook and Blake Billings took Tim Kahl and John Seier to an 8-6 decision at No. 2.
