Ceperley, Olds move up all-time lists on final day of A-R-C Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Headlined by Kate Minette tying for second in a school-record time in the 100 yard freestyle, the Simpson men and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up their seasons at the American Rivers Conference Championships.

Minette tied for second in the 100 yard freestyle, setting a new school record with a time of 54.25. Minette's performance was among the best out of all swimmers across the three-day meet, claiming two golds earlier in the 50 and 200 yard freestyles, the aforementioned silver above, and was part of the Storm's 200 yard freestyle relay team that set a school record.

The Storm women also had two additional performances that entered highly into the all-time lists. Emma Haynes swam a 2:44.87 in the 200 yard breaststroke prelims and then finished sixth in the final. Haynes's prelim time now ranks fifth all-time in program history. Minette was joined by Katie Oosterhuis, Breana Hinson, and Katelyn Smith for the 400 yard freestyle relay, the final event of the day. The quartet swam a time of 3:49.07, which ranks second in school history.

Oosterhuis also set a career-best in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 58.34 in the prelims to qualify for the final. Hinson finished in the top 10 in the event with a time of 58.47 in the final, while Smith also set her career-best in the event, recording a time of 59.21 in the prelims. Maude Steinbeck qualified for the final in the 200 breaststroke, taking first place in the B Final with a career-best 2:47.82, knocking over off four seconds from their prelim time in a come-from-behind victory.

On the men's side, Jay Ceperley swam a career-best 50.19 in the 100 yard freestyle, moving into sixth-place all-time in the event. Gabe Bruns qualified for the final in the same event, swimming a career-best 53.18 in the prelims, while Adrell Mulgrew-Truitt also set a career-best with a time of 54.03.

Christopher Olds competed in the grueling 1650 yard freestyle, knocking off an astounding two minutes off his time swimming a 18:49.51, which places him into fourth all-time.

With the completion of the meet, the Storm's season comes to a close. The teams will resume action next fall.
