MBB Preview: Simpson hosts top A-R-C team on Saturday

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's basketball team looks to keep the momentum going in American Rivers Conference play as Loras visits for a 4 p.m. showdown inside Cowles Fieldhouse on Saturday.

The Storm (6-3, 1-1 A-R-C) are coming off a 71-58 victory at Coe and the Duhawks (6-1, 2-0 A-R-C) enter after claiming a 66-58 win at Luther this past week.

The game will be video streamed live on SimpsonAthletics.com as Todd Guessford has the call. Fans can also access the video stream via the American Rivers application on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV.

LORAS SERIES NOTES
The Storm and Duhawks meet for the 100th time on Saturday in a series that dates back to 1927 ... Loras owns a 52-47 edge over Simpson and has won three in a row and the last 10 of 13 contests ... the Storm grabbed two back-to-back victories before the three-game slump began ... the Duhawks have outscored Simpson by 22.5 points over the last two games since winning by one point on Feb. 14, 2018 in Dubuque, Iowa.

ABOUT THE DUHAWKS
Loras and fourth-year head coach Chris Martin have been on a roll since the season started and have won three games in a row ... the Duhawks are top of the league standings with two conference victories ... four of the team's starters are averaging double figures on the scoring end of the court with Rowan McGowen pacing the squad at 16.4 ppg.

LAST TIME OUT
Simpson captured its first league victory of the season this past Wednesday as the Storm won 71-58 over Coe ... the Kohawks opened the game on a 10-3 scoring run to put Simpson in its largest hole of the contest, but would come back to take a lead at 16-15 ... Jared Bacon would notch a layup as time expired at the half to give the Storm a 37-34 lead going into the break ... Coe would then grab a slim advantage at 38-37, but Simpson would respond on a 12-2 spree to go ahead for good ... Conor Riordan paced the team with 16 points and Adam Reiter was a force on the glass with nine rebounds.

STORM NOTES
Adam Reiter is first in the conference in shooting percentage at 68.3 and 13th in the nation.
• The 98.8 points per game Simpson is putting on the scoreboard still tops the league and is sixth nationally.
• The defense altered six shots via block on Wednesday against Coe, which is the most since tallying six swats on Dec. 21, 2015 against Monmouth (Ill.).

UP NEXT
Simpson travels to San Diego, Calif. for two games on Dec. 17-18. The Storm play UC Santa Cruz the first day and against Redlands to close out the West Coast trip.
