Women's cross country shows improvement at Lamb-Kohawk

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The underclass-laden Simpson women's cross country team ran to a third place finish at the Lamb-Kowhak Invitational at Noelridge Park on Saturday.

All of Simpson's top seven runners were freshmen or sophomores, led by a trio of first years on the 6,000-meter course. Cornell won the team competition with 20 points, followed by Mount Mercy (57) and Simpson (87).

"It was a great performance today by our women," head coach Heath Moenck said. "It was a nice improvement from our last meet. We continue to gain valuable race experience for our young squad."

Freshmen Briana McCloskey (25:10.4), Jessica Gronke (25:18.0) and Erin Boggess (25:20.5) placed 15th, 16th, and 17th, respectively, to lead the Storm.

Sophomore RaeLea Jones came in 19th (25:22.7) and her classmate, Breanna Gaster, crossed in 20th (25:30.2). Freshmen Jessie Eyerly (25:50.9) and Chezlie Johnson (26:34.7) came in 24th and 28th, respectively.
