Storm claim multiple team and individual national titles

SAN ANTONIO - The Simpson College shooting sports team claimed the national team title in the Classic All-American competition and saw multiple individuals claim national titles at the ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships.

The Storm were competing in Division 3 of the championships against 18 other teams ranging from all three divisions in the NCAA to NAIA teams.

Simpson claimed the team title in the Classic All-American discipline, consisting of trap, skeet, and sporting clays. The Storm scored 1,389 points across the three types, including second-place finishes in trap (491 point) and skeet (486 points). Simpson also claimed the bronze in doubles trap as a team, with 463 points.

Breydon Paxson was the combined singles national champion, scoring a perfect 200 with 100's in both the skeet and trap disciplines. Paxson also won his third national title in trap, competing in the Class AA division. Paxson was one of 13 shooters to score a perfect 100, advancing to a shoot off of 25 targets, which lasted four rounds until Paxson won, nailing all 100 targets to go 200-for-200.

Paxson, a local product from Indianola, also finished runner-up in the Classic All-American category, with a total score of 288. He posted perfect scores in skeet and trap, as well as an 88 in the sporting clays discipline. Paxson rounded off his championships with a second-place finish in skeet, being one of two shooters, out of 282 total competitors, to score a perfect 100.

Riley Ericson also claimed a national championship in Class A trap. He was the only competitor out of 309 to shoot a perfect 100.

Taylor Busho won a national title in the women's Class B skeet competition, shooting a 95 to force a shoot-off with one other competitor. Busho won the shootout by one target to claim her first career national title.
