MBB Preview: Simpson takes on Wartburg this Friday

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College men's basketball will host Wartburg on Friday after a schedule change. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.

The Storm (2-5, 2-3 A-R-C) won 68-61 over Luther on Monday for their second-straight home victory. The Knights (2-5, 0-3 A-R-C) are currently in a two-game losing skid after falling, 84-82, in overtime against Coe on Saturday.

Todd Guessford and Ethan Humble will be on the call as the game will be streamed live through SimpsonAthletics.com. Pregame will begin at 5:15 p.m.

SIMPSON ATTENDANCE POLICY
At this time, the general public, faculty, staff and students will not be allowed to attend home contests inside Cowles Fieldhouse. Student-athletes and coaches from both teams will be permitted two spectators that can attend.

WARTBURG SERIES NOTES
Simpson and Wartburg square up for the 145th time in the series history and second time this season ... the two A-R-C foes recently met on Jan. 12 in a nonconference clash, which the Knights won, 69-64, in Waverly ... Wartburg carried a 16-point lead in the game, but Simpson climbed back with a 21-9 scoring spree to bring the contest to within four points, but could not come any closer ... that loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Storm in the series after they swept both outings in 2019-20.

ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
Wartburg is on a two-game losing skid and have lost four of its last five games ... the Knights missed out on a win in their last outing on Feb. 3, but dropped an 84-82 overtime contest against Coe ... Wartburg has four players scoring at least eight points per game, but still under double digits for the year ... the offense is currently sixth in the league in scoring at 72.9 points per game, while the defense is allowing 76.4 points per contest for fifth in the A-R-C.

LAST TIME OUT
Simpson won its second-straight home game on Monday coming in a 69-61 victory over Luther ... the Norse held a slim 23-19 advantage late in the first half before the Storm offense reeled off a 12-0 run to take a 31-23 lead into halftime ... Simpson stretched the tilt to 17 points in the second half for the largest gap of the game ... Luther rebounded with a 16-3 run to bring the game to within three at 60-57 after draining five 3-pointers ... both offenses then went quiet for four minutes before the Storm held off the rally by making their free throws at the end of the game ... junior Chris Honz had game highs of 23 points and nine rebounds to barely miss out on his third double-double of the season.
