Bio

Whitney Oviatt Chapman ‘10 was a major contributor to Simpson softball and volleyball teams over her career. She helped the volleyball team to Iowa Conference Championships in 2006 and 2009 and propelled the softball team to both regular season and tournament titles in 2010. Chapman played in five NCAA Tournaments between the two sports (three volleyball, two softball).

Chapman earned NFCA All-Region honors three years in a row and was named the 2010 Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 24-7 in the circle with 135 strikeouts and a 1.70 ERA. She ranks fourth all-time in career strikeouts (417), victories (54) and innings pitched (526.2), and holds the eighth-lowest ERA in program history.

Chapman was also a standout on the hardwood for the volleyball team. Chapman earned All-IIAC Second Team honors in 2008 and 2009, helping the Storm reach the NCAA postseason in both seasons. She ranks top-15 all-time in career kills (1,063), solo blocks (112) and total blocks (298). In her final year at Simpson, Chapman was also a member of the women's basketball team, contributing to yet another conference title in 2009-10.

Chapman earned a degree in marketing from Simpson and later obtained an early childhood credential from the Montessori Education Institute of the Pacific Northwest in 2017. She has since taught for two Montessori schools in Arizona. Chapman and her husband Darren have three children, Reece, Owen, and Preston. Chapman’s brothers, Cameron '12 and Coleman, both attended Simpson. Cameron was a four-year member of the Storm football team.
