If you look up the term “student-athlete” in the dictionary, you might find a picture of Tiffany Everding Goodchild ‘07. A tireless worker and fierce competitor on the volleyball court, Goodchild brought the same level of intensity to her studies, resulting in an award that only a handful of Simpson studentathletes have ever received.

A product of Tripoli, Iowa, Goodchild made an immediate impact for the Storm and gradually improved each year before breaking out as a senior. That year, the 5-foot-7-inch outside hitter racked up 561 kills (fifth in school history) and a .248 hitting percentage in leading the Storm to their first Iowa Conference Championship in 12 years. In a season full of memorable moments, Goodchild may have sewn up her MVP campaign in early September. On Sept. 6, Goodchild hit .633 with 21 kills in a 3-0 win over No. 17 Central, ending the Dutch’s 37-match IIAC winning streak in the process. Simpson beat Central again in the IIAC Tournament Championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament, where the Storm beat Maryville (Tenn.) in three sets before bowing out in a five-set loss to Rhodes.

Goodchild was a three-year IIAC All-Academic performer and was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship following her senior season. At the time she was just the 13th student-athlete in school history to receive the honor, and to this day she is one of just 15.

She graduated from Simpson with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She went on to obtain her master’s in Education and Education Specialist from the University of Northern Iowa in 2010, then added a K-12 Principal and Special Education Director Certificate from St. Cloud State University in 2015.

Goodchild resides in Hugo, Minn., with her husband, Kole, and three children: Maddie (three), Karter (two), and Gabby (one).
