Trio competing in heptathlon, decathlon at Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Simpson multi-event athletes Sarah Galbraith, Isaac Frazier and Trey Moddelmogg began competition at the historic Kansas Relays on Wednesday. Galbraith is 13th in the heptathlon after four events, Frazier is sixth at the halfway point in the decathlon and Moddelmogg is 16th.

Galbraith enjoyed a great first day in the heptathlon, scoring 2,557 points in the first four events. Despite the busy first day, the senior set personal bests in the shot put (10.05 meters) and the 200-meter dash (28.26). In a field consisting primarily of Division I athletes, Galbraith placed eighth of 16 competitors in both events.

The heptathlon concludes Thursday with the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meter run.

Frazier got a big boost from a 1.92-meter clearance in the high jump to score 3,394 points through the first five events. He tied for second in the event. Competing in the first decathlon of his career, Frazier competed ran the 100 and 400 meters for the first time Wednesday, running 11.43 in the 100 and 52.04 in the 400.

A freshman competing in his home state, Moddelmogg scored, 2,863 points in the first five events. He had a career-best effort in the long jump (5.86 meters) while running the 100 and 400 meters for the first time in his young career. He placed 13th in both the 400 meters and high jump.

The decathlon concludes Thursday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500-meter run.
