Bio

The 2019-20 season marks Phil Wirtz's 11th on the Simpson women's basketball coaching staff. Since joining Simpson in 2009, Wirtz has helped the Storm win four Iowa Conference titles and make four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. 

Wirtz spent seven seasons as the freshman girls basketball coach at Dowling, compiling a 238-6 record from 2002-2009. During that span, Wirtz led the team to three undefeated seasons and three seasons in which the Maroons lost only one contest.

Wirtz graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1982 with a BS in business administration. Wirtz and his wife, Laurie, reside in Waukee, Iowa and have three grown daughters: Chelsea, Leah and Hannah.
