Wrestlers drop heartbreaker at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Casey Paprocki edged Taylor Witzel 5-4 in the deciding match and Buena Vista handed the Simpson wrestling team a tough, 24-19 Iowa Conference loss on Tuesday night.

Simpson trailed Buena Vista 21-19 heading into the 184-pound match, pitting Witzel against Paprocki. The match was tied 4-4 in the final seconds before Paprocki recorded an escape to go up one. Witzel shot but ran out of time to get the takedown.

The Storm (3-8, 0-2 Iowa Conference) gave up six points with a forfeit at 125 pounds, but made up for it with three bonus point wins, including two pins.

Jacob Mize pinned Drake Swedlund at 157 and Jared Bevins started the dual by pinning Demetrius Heard in the third period at 197. Jeff Sand added four team points with a major decision over Cameron Mennenoh at 141

Brett Roberts picked up Simpson's other win when he scored a decision with an 8-5 triumph over Tyler Puls.

The Beavers (1-4, 1-2) won five contested matches, including a crucial 4-3, sudden victory win by Gable Bonner over Colby Vlieger at 285.

Simpson will face Luther, Loras and Coe at the Iowa Conference Duals in Dubuque on Saturday, Jan. 25.
