Patterson named A-R-C Field Athlete of the Year at Outdoor Championships
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The trophy case for Ulysses Patterson continued to grow as the Storm claimed six all-conference honors and two conference champions at the A-R-C Outdoor Championships hosted inside Buxton Stadium.
Patterson won the decathlon and was named the A-R-C Field Athlete of the Year, joining former teammate Spencer Moon as the only individuals to sweep the indoor and outdoor MVP honors in the same year.
Freshman Daniel Pere also took home a major conference award, being voted the A-R-C Newcomer of the Year following school records in the 200m and 4x100 along with a pair of all-conference performances in the 100m and 4x100.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- Ulysses Patterson claimed the conference title in the decathlon with 6729 points, just eight shy of his personal best and over 300 points more than runner-up. He won the 1500m, discus, high jump, javelin, and long jump.
- Daniel Pere put on a show in the 200m dash with a time of 21.53 seconds, breaking the school record in the event set earlier this year by Joseph Sams by 0.07 seconds. He also claimed third in the 100m and helped the 4x100 relay team to a bronze medal as well.
- Kendrick Achebe claimed the crown in the 100m dash, winning the event with a blistering time of 10.51 seconds.
- The 4x100 relay team of Daniel Pere, Brenden Godbout, Kendrick Achebe, and Joseph Sams made school history, setting the top mark in program history with a time of 41.04 to earn all-conference honors.
- In the 400m hurdles, Brenden Godbout earned all-conference honors with his time of 53.18 seconds, tying him fourth in school history in the event.
- Isaiah Strong finished third overall in the high jump with a best mark of 1.94m, earning him an all-conference award.
