Turner grabs program record to lead Storm at Pioneer Classic

GRINNELL, Iowa -- Freshman Danny Turner broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday and ended the last day of the Pioneer Classic with three top-10 performances to lead the Simpson swimming and diving squads. The women finished seventh and the men ended 12th overall.

Turner hit the wall in 59.43 to finish first in the event out of 47 swimmers. The freshman's time clipped the previous program record of 1:00.20 that was set on Feb. 13, 2015 by Kyle McKim. Turner added a second-place nod in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.87, to trim seven seconds off his previous best in the event. Turner also ended seventh in the 100-yard individual medley.

The Storm women tallied four top-10 results to close out their weekend in the pool. Sarah Prendergast finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and 10th in the 200 freestyle, while Alyssa Harris grabbed sixth in the 400 individual medley. The quartet of Madison DePover, Caroline Oberg, Harris and Prendergast received eighth in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Harris came close to cracking the top-10 once again, but finished 13th in the 200-yard backstroke. DePover tallied 18th in the 1,650-yard freestyle, while Cardoza ended 25th in the same event.

Austin Andes finished 33rd in the 400-yard individual medley and Blake Kakacek swam in three events for Simpson.
