WINONA, Minn. -- Ricardo Ibarra scored his first career goal early in the second half and the defense made it stand up as the game-winner, giving the Simpson men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Saint Mary's on Wednesday.
The Storm improved to 10-4-2 on the season while the Cardinals fell to 5-9-1.
Ibarra found the back of the net in the 51st minute on a helper from Baraka Ellie. The freshman-to-freshman duo provided just enough breathing room for Jake Potratz and the Storm defense, which turned in its seventh clean sheet of the season.
Potratz made six saves in his fifth solo shutout between the posts. Ellie got his fourth assist in the last two games, giving him seven on the season.
Outshot 9-5 in the opening frame, Simpson picked up the attack in second half, outshooting Saint Mary's 10-6. The Storm took four coner kicks to seven for the Cardinals.
