Simpson provides strong showing in a 5-0 rout of Westminster

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Spencer Young scored two goals and the Simpson men's soccer team continued its impressive run at home with a 5-0 win against Westminster on Sunday at Buxton Stadium.

The Storm improved to 6-2-1 on the season, extending their unbeaten streak to five games. The Blujeays fell to 1-7 with the loss.

Simpson has outscored opponents 15-1 on the home turf, going 4-0-1.

How it Happened

The Storm outshot Westminster 9-4 and took a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime backed by goals from Edward Idehen, Ian Dean, Collin Nikolai, and Young.

Young put Simpson on the scoreboard in the seventh minute, one-timing a cross from Tanner Alderson from seven yards out.

Idehen scored for the second time in as many games, giving Simpson a 2-0 lead in the 24th minute when he found the back of the net on a nice through-ball from Seth Bowman.

Dean went upper 90 in the 31st minute, getting a helper from Baraka Ellie to give Simpson a 3-0 lead.

Nikolai put Simpson up 4-0 when in the 45th minute when he scored his first goal of the season, getting an assist from Enrique Idehen.

Young scored his second goal of the day early in the second period off a cross from Mason Madren from 20 yards out.

Jake Potratz and Simon Van Den Abbeele each made three saves as they combined for the shutout on the day.

Head coach Rick Isaacson used the comfortable lead to help gain some experience for some of their younger players, as four freshman got their first gameplay of their careers.
