Storm close spring trip with losses to Macalester

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Simpson baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Macalester to close play at the 2018 Tucson Invitational Games on Saturday. The Storm lost game one 3-1 before falling 12-0 in the nightcap.

The Storm finish their trip to Tucson 1-8 and begin play in the Midwest on Saturday, March 17 at Monmouth (Ill.). Start time for the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.

Macalester 3, Simpson 1
Trey Kehoe went the distance on the hill but Simpson could muster only five hits and one run in the loss. Nathan Carlin's ground rule double drove in a run in the fourth inning and pulled the Storm within 2-1, but the Scots tacked on an insurance run in the home half.

Kehoe was the hard-luck loser, giving up three runs off five hits in six innings on the mound. Simpson managed just one hit after the fourth, when Scott Meier singled in the sixth.

Macalester 12, Simpson 0
The Storm couldn't get the bats going against starter Joe Trier in the nightcap, managing just two hits. Truman Schmitt doubled with one out in the fourth but was stranded at second and Tanner Jansen tripled to lead off the fifth but couldn't get home.

Jonathan Sailstad took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs -- seven earned -- in two innings of work.
