#StormTop10 of 2014-15: No. 3

The softball team closed a memorable 2015 season with a trip to NCAA Regional play in Bloomington, Ill., where the Storm finished as runners-up in the four-team region. The softball team's 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament is the No. 3 highlight on our countdown.

Simpson began the season by winning 16 games in a row and was ranked as high as No. 10 in the AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Storm built a winning team with strong arms and explosive bats. The pitching staff featured two, 10-game winners in Riley Fisher (14-5, 2.71 ERA) and Abbie VanVleet (10-5, 2.33 ERA). On offense, the Storm generated a school-record 43 home runs, blowing the old mark out of the water (32 in 2013). Leading the charge at the plate were first team all-IIAC outfielder Brianna Chaplin (.385, 4 HR, 19 RBIs), all-region catcher Tori Haag (.384, 10 HR, 30 RBIs) and junior first baseman Rachel Guessford (.336, 6 HR, 30 RBIs).

Simpson went 31-12, finished third in the IIAC and made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2010.
