Women's cross country finds success under the lights

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Freshman Sadie Timms placed 38th in a field full of Division I and II runners and the Simpson women's cross country team placed 11th of 22 teams at the Augustana Twilight on Friday night.

The Storm saw vast improvement from their first trip to the high-profile meet in 2013, when the team turned in an average time of 19:09 among scoring runners. This year, the average was 18:24.

"What a fun night, racing under the lights," head coach Heath Moenck said. "It was an amazing atmosphere."

Timms completed the 3-mile course in 17:25.28, ahead of classmate Courtney Neuendorf. Neuendorf placed 89th overall in 18:15.05.

Briana McCloskey placed 96th (18:22.22), Breanna Gaster took 119th (18:40.97) and Jessica Lamb came in at 157th (19:20.29) to round out Simpson's top five finishers.

A field of 266 runners competed in the event.

"Tonight's effort is a true testament to the work our team put in this summer," Moenck said.

Simpson is off until Friday, Sept. 19 when the team travels to the Viking Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, hosted by Grand View.
