Women's cross country shows improvement at regionals

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The young Simpson women's cross country team showed marked improvement from last year's regional meet in placing 26th at the NCAA Central Region Championships on Saturday.

Wartburg won the meet with 86 points, followed by Carleton (104) and host school, St. Olaf (131).

"Our women battled today and gained some valuable experience for years to come," head coach Heath Moenck said. "Led by a sophomore and four freshmen, our future is bright."

Sophomore RaeLea Jones led the team in 130th place, finishing the 6k course in 25:11.84.

The next four finishers for the Storm were freshmen. Jessica Gronke placed 140th (25:27.39), Briana McCloskey placed 142nd (25:29.19), Erin Boggess 143rd (25:32.19) and Jessie Eyerly took 166th (26:26.19).

Senior Lindsey Borgomainerio (169th, 26:31.89) and sophomore Breanna Gaster (170th, 26:42.39) rounded out Simpson's seven.
