Storm women close season at Central Region Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Simpson women's cross country team put together its best team race of the season to place 24th of 28 teams at the NCAA Central Region Championships hosted by St. Olaf on Saturday.

The Storm finished with 751 points, behind Martin Luther (685) and ahead of Northwestern-Minn. (805). Wartburg won the team race with 72 points followed by St. Olaf (95) and Luther (121).

"We ran our best team race of the season today," head coach Heath Moenck said. "The women once again ran with incredible toughness. We gained valuable experience today for our young team."

Simpson's six-person lineup consisted of only one senior.

Junior Lindsey Borgomainerio led the Storm for the fourth meet in a row, placing 132nd and finishing in a time of 25:47.6.

RaeLea Jones ran one of her best races of the season, turning in her highest team finish while placing 147th overall (26:31.6).

Emily Manning responded from her breakout performance at the Iowa Conference Championships two weeks ago by placing 153rd at regionals (26:39.0).

Hampered by injuries all season, senior Jade Osborne placed 154th (26:39.9). Shelby King came in 165th (27:09.2) and Breanna Gaster placed 167th (27:24.4) to round out Simpson's lineup.
