Simpson takes sixth at IIAC Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Lindsey Borgomainerio led Simpson to a sixth-place finish at the Iowa Conference Championships on Saturday.

The Storm finished with 174 points, 15 behind Dubuque (159). Wartburg won the title with 21 points, Luther placed second (38), Loras third (87) and Central fourth (96). Coe took seventh (208) and Buena Vista eighth (246).

Second-year head coach Heath Moenck's squad saw five different point scorers in the results than it did a year ago.

"Our women showed tremendous fight today," Moenck said.

Borgomainerio has stepped up to lead the Storm in the latter portion of the season and Saturday was no different, as the junior covered the 6k course at Noelridge Park in 24:38.6, good for 36th place.

Emily Manning ran the best race of her young career, taking 49th (25:04.7).

"Emily ran absolutely fantastic today," Moenck said of the freshman.

Shelby King placed 64th (25:33.7), Lauren Doocy 68th (25:40.3), RaeLea Jones 74th (25:53.2), Jade Osborne placed 79th (26:06.0) and Breanna Gaster placed 81st (26:07.8).

Simpson goes to Northfield, Minn. for the Central Region Championships on Nov. 10, which are hosted by St. Olaf.
