Storm take second at Lamb-Kohawk Invite

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Lindsey Borgomainerio led a compact group of runners and the Simpson women's cross country team placed second of six teams at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational on Saturday.

Borgomainerio, a junior, led the Simpson finishers for the first time in her career, navigating the 6k course in 24:27.1.

The spread between Simpson's top finisher and fifth finisher (Lindsey's sister, Amelia) was only 1:08.3.

"It's great to see her step up and help out (last year's team MVP) Jade Osborne as she deals with a nagging injury," head coach Heath Moenck said. "Once again we made positive progress, and I'm confident we can continue to do so."

Osborne placed 11th (24:51.1), Lauren Doocy 14th (25:28.3) and Shelby King 15th (25:33.3). Amelia Borgomainerio placed 16th (25:35.4) while RaeLea Jones (25:38.0) and Leah Clark (25:43.1) rounded out the Storm's top seven.

Simpson will face its biggest test of the season next weekend when it travels to West Salem, Wis. for the Drews/Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.
