A longtime fixture and champion for women's intercollegiate athletics at Simpson, Barb Overton begins her 23rd season on the Storm volleyball staff in 2021.

Overton's impact on Simpson College spans decades, dating back to 1965 when she began her Simpson career as a professor in the physical education department. During her time in Indianola, Overton served as head of the physical education department, directed the Women's Recreation Association and began the foundation for the organization of a women's intercollegiate athletic program.

Overton was the first varsity softball coach in Simpson history, helped create the varsity volleyball program and also spent time coaching golf and tennis.

Overton's years of service to Simpson College were recognized in 2012 when she earned the Dick Buxton Award at the annual Red & Gold Celebration. The award is given to a member of the community who willingly gives time and effort in support of athletics at the College.

Prior to joining the squad, she was head volleyball coach at Indianola High School in 1998 where she led the Indians to a conference championship, a regional berth and a 33-9-2 record. She was also former Simpson head coach, Lana Smith's assistant for the Indians from 1990-98.

In addition to her coaching duties, Overton is Simpson's Athletic Marketing Assistant.
