Simpson volleyball receiving votes in AVCA poll
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College volleyball team is sitting just outside the top 25 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings.
The Storm (1-1, 1-1 A-R-C) received 59 votes in the poll to land four spots away from 25th after the season started on Saturday.
Simpson opened its delayed season with an upset over Dubuque over the weekend. The Storm won a five-set battle to upend the league-favorite Spartans on the road. Simpson evened its record in a 3-2 loss to Central on Tuesday night inside Cowles Fieldhouse for the home opener.
Senior Lexie Parks tallied A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance in the victory for the league's first honoree this season. Parks is first on the team and tied for third in the conference with 27 kills through the two matches.
Senior Kamryn Juni sits behind Parks with 26 kills after racking up a career-high 17 against the Dutch. Senior Ariana Martinez has 55 digs for third most in the league and sophomore Marissa Salber is second among setters with 72 assists.
Competition resumes for the Storm this Saturday with a visit to Loras (2-0, 2-0 A-R-C). The match will begin at noon in Dubuque.
