Parks collects A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week award

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Simpson College volleyball junior Lexie Parks has been tabbed the American Rivers Conference Offensive Player of the Week for providing the spark in the Storm's season opening upset at Dubuque on Saturday.

Parks is the first member of the Simpson volleyball squad to receive a weekly award since senior Ariana Martinez and junior Megan LeMay were both named on Sept. 16, 2018, with LeMay earning the award for her offensive prowess and Martinez on the defensive side. Parks is not the only Simpson student-athlete to garner weekly accolades today, women's basketball's Jenna Taylor was tabbed the A-R-C Player of the Week.

The Allen, Texas native tallied 16 kills with a .250 hitting percentage on Saturday to help the Storm clinch a 3-2 victory over the Spartans, just a day after Dubuque was selected to finish first in the A-R-C Preseason Coaches' Poll. On the defensive side, Parks produced 10 digs and had a solo block to slow down the Spartans. She was the only one on the team to have a double-double.

Parks is currently first in the league in points (17) and kills, and is 10th in kills per set (3.20).

Parks and the Storm (1-0, 1-0 A-R-C) hold their home opener Tuesday night when Central (0-1, 0-1 A-R-C) visits for a 7:30 p.m. match.
