Volleyball suffers a pair of losses at Gustavus Adolphus Quadrangular

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Simpson volleyball team was only able to win one set over two matches at the Gustavus Adolphus Quadrangular as the Storm dropped matches to Gustavus Adolphus and Hamline on Saturday.

Gustavus Adolphus 3, Simpson 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-16)
The Storm (11-16) ran into a formidable Gustavus Adolphus (20-2) squad in match one of the day, falling in straight sets as the Gusties hit a robust .413 as a team.

Lauren Hanson had a kill percentage of .542 on the way to a match-high 14 kills for the Gusties who notched their 20th straight win.

Sami Boekhoff, Mackenzie McGraw and Tabitha Blaser each had five kills to lead the Storm who posted a .202 kill percentage.

Hamline 3, Simpson 1 (29-27, 25-27, 26-24, 25-19)
Simpson lost 3-1 in the second half of the day's action, but the final outcome was much closer than it appeared on paper.

Each of the first three sets was decided by only two points, with Hamline winning a pivotal third set, 26-24, to create a 2-1 advantage.

The Storm would hit only .036 in the fourth set as the Hamline Pipers (10-12) ran away with the win.

Simpson only had a kill percentage of .093 but Blaser and McGraw were both in double-figure kills respectively, having 13 and 11 respectively as Simpson had a staggering 204 attacks.

Both teams played well defensively with Hamline recording 101 digs to Simpson's 91.

Olivia Sulentic led the Storm in that category with 31 as senior Sara Hoppenworth served up 31 assists.
