Volleyball drops match to IIAC frontrunner, Coe

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Rachel Bosworth had a match-high 11 kills as Iowa Conference leading Coe beat the Simpson volleyball team in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-20) Tuesday night.

Tabitha Blaser had a team-high nine kills for upset-minded Simpson, which had a chance to extend the match in the third set before Coe scored five straight to close the night.

"That's kind of how we operate," head coach Lana Smith said. "We are slow to start, then we kind of get going. But our youth makes makes it tough to hang with teams that are bigger than us and more seasoned than us."

Simpson trailed 20-17 in the third set before a MacKenzie McGraw kill and a pair of errors by Coe evened the score at 20-all. But Coe came back with five straight points, including an ace by Alissa Wittenburg to seal the win.

Bosworth hit .526, Olivia Leisinger added eight kills and setter Mackenzie Harbaugh finished with 30 assists as the Kohawks (20-5, 5-0 Iowa Conference) remained the lone unbeaten team in league play.

McGraw and Jacqueline Luth had seven kills apiece and Kayla Aronow contributed a game-high 18 digs for the Storm (10-13, 1-4 Iowa Conference).
