Volleyball drops a pair on first day in St. Peter

ST. PETER, Minn. - The Simpson volleyball team lost a pair of 3-1 decisions on the first day of the Gustavus Invitational, falling to Augsburg (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14) and Wisconsin-Stout (21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16).

The Storm (4-4) finish play Saturday against host Gustavus Adolphus at Noon and Bethel at 4 p.m.

Junior setter Katie Kieffer continued her breakout season, accumulating 85 assists in eight sets. She upper her season average to 10.81 assists per set with Saturday's performance.

Kieffer had 43 assists against Augsburg, helping three players reach double figures in kills. Olivia Sulentic led the way with 14, followed by Tabitha Blaser with 11 and Torey Buenger with 10.

Sulentic had 15 digs for the double-double while Buenger and Elisa Wildy had two aces apiece.

Kieffer handed out 42 assists against Stout, going primarily to Blaser, who finished with a game-high 20 kills. Sultentic added 11 and 15 digs to go along with three block assists.

Kaylay Aronow led the team with 17 digs against Stout.
