Volleyball splits at Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Led by the duo of Kat Wetjen and Tabitha Blaser, the Simpson volleyball team got back on the winning track by splitting the first two games of Illinois Wesleyan's Barker Chevrolet Classic.

Simpson lost to Concordia (Wis.) 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22) before blanking North Park in the final match of the day (25-14, 25-22, 25-24). The win over North Park snapped a frustrating 10-match losing streak for the Storm (15-13).

Wetjen and Blaser finished the day with 26 kills apiece.

Concordia 3, Simpson 1
Torey Buenger continued her steady play at the net in the loss. She hit a team-high .524 with 11 kills and three aces. Blaser led the team with 14 kills, followed by Wetjen with 12. Katie Kieffer handed out 35 assists and Kim Rogers had 23 digs.

Simpson 3, North Park 0
Wetjen hit .437 with 14 kills as Simpson hit .309 as a team in the win. Blaser has 12 kills and hit .370. Kieffer finished with 21 assists and Rogers had 10 digs and five aces.
