Volleyball sweeps Hunter, Brockport State to open season

NEW YORK – Tabitha Blaser had 24 kills, Katie Kieffer had 64 assists and the Simpson volleyball hit .270 as a team en-route to 3-0 wins over Hutner and Brockport State at the New York University Labor Day Invitational on Friday.

The Storm (2-0) started the season off right with a pair of convincing wins. They handled Hunter 25-13, 25-11, 25-12 in the opener then pulled away from Brockport State, 26-24, 25-17, 25-13 in the second match.

Blaser led the way with 16 kills in the win over Hunter. Haley Danforth finished with seven and MacKenzie McGraw hit .556 with six kills. Kieffer handed out 35 assists and Simpson hit .364 as a team.

Simpson pieced together a balanced attack against Brockport as Blaser, Danforth and freshman Kat Wetjen had eight kills apiece. Morgan Terpstra played a nearly flawless match, hitting .667 with six kills and no errors in nine attempts. Kieffer had 29 assists and Audrey Schuttler dialed in six aces.

Simpson closes play in New York on Saturday against Ramapo.
