Storm go 2-0 at Grinnell Triangular

GRINNELL, Iowa – Steph Keller had a big day with 28 kills, the team registered 24 aces and the Simpson volleyball team went 2-0 with wins over Knox and Grinnell at the Grinnell Triangular on Saturday.

The Storm (5-12) hit .272 as a team, beating Knox in straight sets (13, 19, 9) and coming back from two sets down to knock off host Grinnell (26-28, 23-25, 25-19, 25-12, 20-18).

Keller led a well-rounded attack against the Prairie Fire (2-16) with nine kills while hitting .438. Tabitha Blaser also had nine kills, Lauren Martin contributed eight and McKaylie Croghan chipped in with seven.

All of Simpson's kill leaders – Keller, Blaser (.412), Martin (.400) and Corghan (.400) – hit .400 or better.

Keller added a team-high 10 digs, Martin had four blocks and Katie Kieffer had 22 assists.

Simpson's service came up big against the Pioneers (3-16), as Caitlyn Shiek and Kim Rogers accounted for nine of the team's 16 aces in the win.

Keller had another big performance with 19 kills followed closely by Croghan's 18. MacKenzie McGraw stepped up in the second match of the day, supplying 15 kills and a game-high .357 hitting percentage.

Shiek finished with five aces, 11 digs and six assists while Rogers had four aces and 25 digs.

Kieffer handed out a season-high 55 assists.

Simpson is in action Monday when it travels to William Penn for a non-conference meeting with William Penn. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
