Storm close Wisconsin trip with pair of losses

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Simpson volleyball team dropped the final two contests of the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday, falling to Edgewood 3-0 and St. Norbert 3-1.

The Storm (1-7) lost to Edgewood 25-13, 25-14, 25-19 and gave St. Norbert a battle in the final two sets before being saddled with a 25-13, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25 defeat.

Freshman setter Katie Kieffer was selected to the all-tournament team.

Simpson struggled in the day's first match, hitting .069 against Edgewood. Tabitha Blaser paced the team with four kills and Kieffer had seven assists.

Simpson recovered against St. Norbert by playing some of its best volleyball of the weekend, testing the Green Knights in the final two sets.

McKaylie Croghan led the way with 11 kills, Lauren Martin added nine and Kieffer handed out 20 assists.

Simpson opens its Iowa Conference schedule Wednesday, Sept. 12 when it travels to Storm Lake, Iowa for a meeting with Buena Vista. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
