Storm split final day of Simpson Invitational

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson volleyball team earned a split on the last day of the Simpson Invitational, finishing the tournament in third place with a 2-2 record.

Simpson lost the first match of the day to No. 12 St. Thomas in three sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-17) before blanking Loras 3-0 to close the weekend (25-11, 25-16, 25-12).

Middle-hitter Megan Dunlavy and outside-hitter Steph Keller made the all-tournament team for the Storm (10-16). Dunlavy led the team with 57 kills and hit a team-high .328 while Keller added 52 kills.

Simpson had a tough time against eventual tournament-champion St. Thomas. Dunlavy was the lone bright spot with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.

The team rebounded against the Duhawks, closing the weekend in style. Dunlavy hit .577 with 16 kills in the match while Keller added 11.

Ashley Padget led the team with 123 assists and Audrey Schuttler had 52 digs.

The Storm return to conference action Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they face Luther (17-10, 2-3 Iowa Conference) in Decorah at 7:30 p.m.
