Storm close Wartburg Invitational 2-2

WAVERLY, Iowa - Megan Dunlavy had a team-high 25 kills as Simpson split the final day of the Wartburg Invitational, losing to St. Olaf 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-9) before beating UW-La Crosse 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-16).

The Storm (7-13) close the tournament 2-2 after beating UW-River Falls in five and losing to UW-Eau Claire in three on Friday. Dunlavy led Simpson with 52 kills on the weekeing, hitting a team-best .226. McKaylie Croghan had a big weekend with 44 kills and a .225 hitting percentage and Steph Keller added 40 kills for the offense.

Ashley Padget set up the Storm's front line with 136 assists in four games and Audrey Schuttler anchored the back row with 65 digs. Dunlavy finished with a team-high 10 blocks.

The trio of Dunlavy, Keller and Croghan paced the Storm in their 3-0 win over La Crosse, Keller put down 13 kills and hit a team-high .357, Dunlavy added 11 kills and Croghan chipped in with eight. Simpson hit .260 as a team while holding the Eagles to .030.

In the first match of the day, Katie Wolfram and Ariel Carlson had 15 kills apiece for the Oles. Dunlavy led Simpson with 14 kills and Croghan added 12, hitting .286.

Simpson returns to conference action next week for homecoming when it hosts Cornell on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
