Driscoll named IIAC Performer of the Week

INDIANOLA – Simpson volleyball player Monica Driscoll earned Iowa Conference Performer of the Week honors as a libero for the week ending Sept. 5.

Driscoll—a senior from Williamsburg—led the team with 102 digs during an opening week in which the Storm went 4-2 on a trip to St. Louis. Simpson went 2-0 at the Webster University Triangular and split four matches at the Washington University Classic. She earned all-tournament honors at Washington.

Included in the tournament were matches against No. 1 Washington (Mo.) and DePauw, which was receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Top 25 poll. The Storm fell to Washington, 3-1, but swept DePauw, 3-0.

Driscoll is in her second season with the Storm after transferring from Des Moines Area Community College for the 2009 season. A first-year starter in this year, the sociology major is currently third in the league with 131 digs.

The Storm (4-3) enjoyed a weekend off after losing a tough, five-set match to Wartburg in the conference opener last Wednesday. The team returns to conference play this Wednesday, hosting Loras at 7:30 p.m.
