Simpson falls in first round

ST. LOUIS - Making its third NCAA Volleyball Championship appearance in four years, Simpson couldn't get past eighth-ranked Carthage in the opening round, as the Lady Reds prevailed 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-21).

Simpson's season come to a close after compiling a 21-14 overall record (7-1 IIAC) en-route to the Iowa Conference Championship.

Megan Dunlavy's 13 kills were a game-high, as were Tara Christensen's 28 assists. Dunlavy committed only error, hitting .462 for the match.

Michelle Madeja led Carthage with eight kills, followed by Rachel Swoboda with seven. The Lady Reds (32-5) advance to the regional semifinal.
