Dunlavy earns first IIAC weekly award

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson middle hitter Megan Dunlavy earned Iowa Conference Performer of the Week honors as an attacker for the week ending Oct. 18, the conference announced Tuesday.

A sophomore from Bettendorf, Iowa, Dunlavy led the Storm with a .475 attack percentage as Simpson went 4-1 during the week, including a 3-1 showing at the Elmhurst Invitational and a conference win over Dubuque Oct. 14.. The sociology major ranked second on the team with 53 kills and nine blocks.

She continued her efficient attack in Simpson's 3-0 win against Coe Tuesday night. In the match, Dunlavy didn't commit an error in totaling six kills in 13 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage.

The honor is the first of Dunlavy's career.

Dunlavy becomes the fourth Storm volleyball player to earn a weekly award from the IIAC, as Simpson players have been recognized in each of the past three weeks. On Oct. 4, Whitney Oviatt (Sr., MH, Carnation, Wash.) and libero Brittany Friesth (Sr., Adel, Iowa) swept the awards, and Lara Gillespie (Sr., OH, Lake Park, Iowa) took home the award as the top attacker Oct. 11.

Other Outstanding Weekly Performers
The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding athletic performances last week.

Men's Soccer – Simpson freshman midfielder Jeremy Reinert (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) netted a diving header in the 84th minute to help Simpson earn a 1-1 tie at Coe Oct. 17.
