Mangold, Burgus qualify for finals at IIAC Outdoor Championship

PELLA, Iowa -- Freshman Katelyn Mangold posted the third-fastest time in school history while qualifying for finals in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Simpson women's track and field team on their first day at the 2018 Iowa Conference Outdoor Championship.

The Storm are in eighth place going into Saturday's final day of competition. Field events get underway at 10 a.m. with running events beginning at 1:30 with the 4x100-meter relay.

Mangold won her heat of the 400 hurdles in 64.45 seconds, the third-fastest qualifying time and a personal-best. The time is the third-fastest in school history and fastest by a Simpson runner since Lauren Bucklin set the record in 2009.

Elizabeth Burgus qualified for finals in the 400-meter dash, running a season-best 1:01.12 to claim a lane for Saturday's final. The time is just off her career best which was set at last year's conference championship.
