LoVan ties pole vault record to lead Storm at season-opener

PELLA, Iowa — Audrey LoVan tied the school record in the pole vault to lead the Simpson women's track and field team at the season-opening Dutch Holiday Preview on Saturday, Dec. 9. No team scores were kept.

LoVan cleared 10-feet to tie for third in the pole vault, tying the school record set by Kathryn Fenneman in 2006. The effort ties her personal-best but marks the first time she's cleared 10-feet indoors.

Elizabeth Burgus turned in the Storm's top finish in a running event, taking second in the 300 meters in 44.44. She also took seventh in the 60 meters (8.34) and 12th in the long jump (14-0 1/2).

Jaycie Owens added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters (1:06.53) and Kate Derrick took seventh in the 600 meters (2:01.43). Jamie Glanz tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 4-feet, 7-inches.
