Timms posts big steeplechase effort

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — Sadie Timms posted one of the top times in school history in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the Simpson women's track and field team placed 6th of 10 teams at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday.

Timms and classmate Courtney Neuendorf finished two-three in the steeplechase, the first time either have run the event collegiately. Timms finished in 12:04.25, the fourth-fastest time in school history the and No. 4 time in the Iowa Conference. Neuendorf ran the seventh-fastest time in school history, finishing in 12:43.45.

Alex Niemier added a pair of top-10 efforts in the throwing events, taking fourth in the shot put (38-2) and sixth in the hammer throw (119). 

Audrey LoVan took fourth in the pole vault, clearing a season-best 9-6 1/4. She was also the Storm's top finisher in the 100 (12th, 13.72) and helped the 4x100 relay to a sixth-place finish.

Simpson will compete at Drake's Jim Duncan Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15.
