Galbraith's long jump leads Storm at Cornell

MT. VERNON, Iowa – Sarah Galbraith had a solid showing in the long jump to lead the Simpson women's track and field team at the Cornell Invitational held Saturday, April 9.

The Storm had five top-five finishes on the day, led by Galbraith's second-place effort in the long jump. The Iowa Conference indoor pentathlon champion hit the sand in 16-feet, 1 1/2 inches.

Simpson's pole vault duo of Mary Doherty and Audrey LoVan tied for third, as each cleared 9-0 1/4.

Freshman Jaycie Owens had a strong showing in the 400-meter hurdles, placing fourth in a season-best time of 1:12.79.

Rebecca Diemer and Sadie Timms paced the Storm's effort in the middle distance races. Timms led the way in the 800, placing eighth in 2:31.42, while Diemer came in ninth in 2:32.09. The two traded places in the 1500 as Diemer ran 4:59.96 to place fifth and Timms crossed the line in 5:00.06 to take sixth.

Simpson goes to the Blue Oval this weekend for the annual Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake. The Storm have several athletes competing April 15-16 in the Drake Relays warmup.
