Galbraith named IIAC Performer of the Week
After posting the No. 21 score in the country in the pentathlon, Simpson senior Sarah Galbraith earned Iowa Conference Field Performer and Female Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 31, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Competing in the pentathlon for the first time this season, Galbraith scored a personal-best 2,966 points to win Central's Dutch Athletics Classic on Saturday, Jan. 31. Her score is currently tops in the Iowa Conference and No. 21 in all of Division III.
Galbraith won the high jump and long jump on the way to the pentathlon title. She cleared 5-feet, 1/2 inches on the high jump and hit the sand in 15-11 in the long jump, both marks that would have been second in the regular meet.
The accolade is the first of Galbraith's career, who was named the team's Field MVP as a junior. The last time a Simpson athlete won the award was Kinsey Bak on Feb. 19, 2012.
