Simpson wins five events, takes second at Wartburg Relays

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Simpson track and field teams opened the indoor season with a pair of second-place finishes at the Wartburg Relays on Friday evening.

The women placed second of five teams and the men came in second of six. The teams combined for five first-place efforts, one on the women's side and four on the men's.

WOMEN'S TOP EFFORTS

Bayley Fleshner – a national qualifier in the 100 hurdles outdoors last season – won the 60-meter hurdles, breaking the tape in 9.58 seconds. She also placed second in the long jump with an effort of 15-6 ¾ feet.

Multi-athletes Sarah Galbraith took second in the high jump (4-7 ¾) and dual-sport athlete Elisa Wildy took third in the triple jump (32-4 ¾).

MEN'S TOP EFFORTS

Sophomore Isaac Frazier won the high jump, clearing 6-5 1/2. Mitch Stoltzman provided the other top individual finish, winning the pole vault with a leap of 12-7 ½.

The Storm also won two relays, winning the 4x200-meter relay (1:34.59) and the 4x800-meter relay (8:43.46).

Dylan Kalinay placed second in the 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay team also placed second. Josh Diehm took third in the high jump (6-1 ½).
