Women's track & field crowns four at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Jamie Elbert won the 800 and the 1500 and the Simpson women's track and field team crowned four champions at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday.

No team scores were kept.

Elbert ran a 2:24.01 to win the 800 and crossed the finish line in 5:08.10 to win the 1500.

The Storm also got a first-place effort from Bayley Fleshner in the 100-meter hurdles, running a 15.37 to best the field.

Simpson's other first-place showing came in the 4x100-meter relay as the team of Fleshner, Lauren Martin, Sarah Ney and Jordan Maher ran a 50.06 for the win.

Ney added a second-place finish in the 100 (13.10) and came in third in the 200 (27.29).

Fleshner chipped in a third-place finish in the long jump (16-feet, 8 3/4 inches) and Maher came in third in the discus (131-3).

Martin (100, 13.22) and April Sigmund (400, 1:03.80) added fourth-place finishes.

Simpson goes to the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines on April 12-13.
