Fleshner takes third in 55 hurdles at IIAC Championships

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Bayley Fleshner placed third in the 55-meter hurdles to lead the Simpson women's track and field team at the 2013 Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Simpson placed eighth with 31 points. Wartburg won the meet convincingly with 262 points, followed by Luther (127) and Central (108).

Fleshner crossed the finish line in 8.35 seconds, ahead of teammate Jordan Maher, who placed eighth (9.01).

April Sigmund added a fourth-place effort in the 400 meters (1:00.61) and Jamie Elbert took fifth in the 800 meters (2:22.26). A senior, Elbert is in her first season on the track and field team after playing basketball for the Storm for two seasons. She transferred to Simpson after spending her freshman year at the University of Chicago.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Elbert, Sammy Nelson, Lindsey Borgomainerio and Brandi Schindel placed fourth (9:55.28).
