Women's track and field takes sixth at conference

MT. VERNON, Iowa – Kinsey Bak won the high jump competition, leading the Simpson women's track and field team to a sixth-place finish at the 2012 Iowa Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Simpson scored 54 points, three points behind Coe. Wartburg won the title with 317 points, followed by Loras in a distant second (82.50).

Bak cleared 5-3 in her second attempt to edge Loras' Katie Langmeier, who needed three attempts. Bak added a third-place showing in the triple jump (36-2 ¾) and took eighth in the long jump (16-3 ¼). She also placed third in the pentathlon on Friday, giving her 23 of Simpson's points.

Freshman Bayley Fleshner finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.19), improving one spot from her fourth-place showing in Friday's prelims.

April Sigmund took fifth in the 400 meters (59.93), Sammy Nelson sixth in the 800 meters (2:24.30) and Jordan Maher placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.96).

The Storm's top relay performance came in the 4x800 meters, where the team of Nelson, Jayde Boyle, Shelby King and Jade Osborne finished third (10:00.72).
