Simpson women take sixth at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa – Kinsey Bak and Bayley Fleshner each turned in a second-place effort on Saturday, helping the Simpson women's track and field team to a sixth-place finish at Grinnell's Darren Young Classic.

Wartburg won the meet with 169 points, followed by Nebraska Wesleyan (89), McMurry (68), Carleton (63) and Central (49). Simpson scored 27 points, topping Grinnell (26), Coe (19) Middlebury (8) and Cornell (8).

Bak cleared 5-6 on the high jump to place second and Fleshner broke the tape in 9.258 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, her best effort of the season.

Bak also placed sixth in the long jump, reaching 16-feet, 3 ¼ inches.

April Sigmund added another sixth-place performance for the Storm in the 400 meters, finishing in 60.57 seconds.

Simpson also got eighth-place finishes in the 60-meter dash, 800 meters and 5,000 meters. Sarah Ney took eighth in the 60 (8.37), Sammy Nelson in the 800 (2:27.01) and Jade Osborne in the 5,000 (19:18.63).

The Simpson women will have one final tune-up before the Iowa Conference Championships when they take part in the Iowa Invitational next Friday, Feb. 17.
